So, it came across the same on television unfortunately. ESPN had 3 mic stands right in front of FSU's band. According to what I have been told those mic's were FSU's... ESPN just gave them extra cables to run the mic's to the power/speaker system in the stadium... meanwhile HOT does not have any mic's and for some ******* reason USF can't get it through their heads that HOT needs to be mic'd Edited September 30, 2012 by Bubba Bull

USF put the FSU pep band in probably the best acoustic spot in the entire stadium btw. Good grief... how many times does it have to be said.... FSU MADE THE DECISION WHERE TO PUT THEIR BAND... THEIR DONORS WANTED THE TICKETS IN 133 SO FSU MOVED THEIR BAND TO THE 300 SEATS. USF had no part in that decision.

HOT had mics too and they were also placed down the sidelines.... Normal setup for an ESPN game.

Get OVER IT. The band is ****. deal with it. No one is blaming the loss on them. Slightly related, but not really. Another fail is allowing FSU to wait till as late as possible to take the field last. Athletics needs to grow a pair and tell the visiting teams that you will take the field at this time. Period. They take the field first, then USF takes the field. Can you imagine if we went to UF or FSU and pulled that crap? Said the same thing last night. What is worse is when the visiting team comes out AT THE SAME TIME as USF. wtf is that? They don't play the visiting team fight song because of the Big 10, they do it because the current director is from FSU and it's a tradition at FSU (regardless of the other band being there). USF put the FSU pep band in probably the best acoustic spot in the entire stadium btw. this. I dont believe USF put them there, but they were in the best spot. I was on the other side of the stadium from them and had no problems hearing them. HOT was closer to me and I could barely hear them.

They're loudspeakers for the director or drum major to give them directions or tell them what to play next. It has nothing to do with piping music into the stadium. The HOT uses the same system. The "microphones" you see are really speakers. The drum majors or directors use hand signals for some songs or just simply speak to them to tell them what to play. If you've ever been in a marching band, you'd know.

If you've ever been in a marching band, you'd know. We're not talking about the speaker systems that the bands use for communication. We're talking about the TV mics which were in place last night and at other nationally televised games. They're mounted to the wall that surrounds the field and they're a yellow pole about an inch in diameter with a mic at the top that's about 6ft above the top of the wall. They had four on each sideline as well as 3 around FSU's band in 319. They look nothing like the tripod speakers that the bands use for communication. The mics feed crowd noise and the bands into the TV production truck so they can be laid over the broadcast when needed.

I was told by DR. M they tried to use amplification before but with RAY Jay being so "large" and the 1.2 Second delay creates problems ect.... However anyone who has been in music or knows music knows that DCI and BOA uses amplification and they hold their events in larger venuse than Ray Jay. In fact both hold their championships in the Colts Dome in Indy which is larger and much more difficult to play in than an open air stadium like Ray Jay. I suggest anyone who has suggestions write to him(Dr M.) and let him know how you feel, offer him some suggestions. Be a part of the solution. They add nothing to the game for 85% of the people who sit south of them. Classic USF>>>> what other university sets their band up so poorly? That is the biggest HOT fail of all. And HOT has no say in the matter. Agreed...can't hear squat from the opposite corner in 120 Solution: Buy better seats!

The difference in the examples you cited are in the natural acoustics of RJS.... that's why there's never been a DCI or BOA competition here. You're correct they did try mic'ing them once... it failed horribly and it's even worse when there are empty seats for the sound to bounce of. The reason for the delay is that all of the main speakers for RJS are above the south endzone score board. with the band in the northeast corner you'll always have a delay as the sound from the mic has to travel thru the cables and processors and audio boards to the speakers... it's not fixable. Louisville Card stadium is a regular stop on the tour as well So is Atlanta GA Dome. Giants Stadium also host events(went last year). All have similar issues as Ray Jay. It can work if you have good musicans who know how to play with the delay. Or they can invest in Speakers and set them up in front of them (like a Pit area). Go to YOUTUBE check out DCI or BOA and you will see what Im talking about. Edited September 30, 2012 by Dhambuc
