For a house beer I have long enjoyed Negra Modelo and was pleased to read that Modelo Especial imports are growing by double digits without any swanky ads or promotion.

USF Basketball over the years led to a lot of self-medication via Negro Modelo.

I can't find the story now, but Negra is a great ale to have on hand.

I first had it on our honeymoon in '96. About a year or two before it began to be imported I think.

Modelo is one of the few mexian beers i will drink. Nothing beats an especial or negro with some nice fresh authentic tacos.

The most glorious beer day in the state of Florida will be this Saturday at Cigar City. Yes kiddies its The release party for Hunaphu's Imperial Stout. For those not familiar here is some info on the event:

http://cigarcitybrewing.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=34&Itemid=33

Cigar City will have tons of special beer just brewed for this day (Barrel Aged treatments of beers, one off variations of some of your favorites, and the elusive Jolly Guava should make an appearance) and will also have tons of guest beer from around the country even out of region breweries like Three Floyds will be bringing beer down (2011 Dark Lord anyone?). If you love craft beer you need to at least stop by the event because it will be beer nirvana and Hunaphu should be on tap all day long for you to try. I've been to all the beerfests in the area (Centro Ybor, Sarasota etc) and none of them even come close to the fun factor or amount of world class beer available on one spot.

Pensacola Bay Brewery. Just took several Medals down in Ybor.

This is their best one, voted second best beer in the state, if you like a rich, flavorful porter.

They are spreading through the panhandle.

Cigar City's release party for Hunaphu's Imperial Stout is the culmination of the first annual Tampa Bay Beer Week.

My personal favorite is their Jai-Alai IPA.

I'm going to try to make it down to Cigar City since I have a weakness for imperial stouts. I have some Old Rasputin chilling right now, along with some Jai-Alai.

By the way, Selmon's has Jai-Alai on drought.
