TBO_PrepSports    USF makes offer to Armwood sophomore safety Leon McQuay. Already has Florida and Vanderbilt. Lot more to come the next two years.

Offer No. 3 for Armwood’s McQuay: USF

After receiving offers from Southeastern Conference schools Florida and Vanderbilt, Armwood’s Leon McQuay III landed his third major scholarship offer when the University of South Florida joined the line seeking the talented Hawks sophomore/rising junior.

The offer came after McQuay attended at recent Bulls spring practice. Florida coach Will Muschamp made the 6-2, 177-pound McQuay an offer following last month’s Junior Day in Gainesville. Vandy made its offer to McQuay earlier this week.

McQuay, a first team all-Hillsborough County selection by the Tribune at safety, is one of the state’s most talented athletes. Not only is he capable of playing any number of positions, he is a 6-6 high jumper in track, played striker on the Hawks soccer team and has recently added the hurdles to his track events.

This year alone, McQuay, the grandson of former University of Tampa star and ex-NFL and CFL running back Leon McQuay, has been named to both the ESPN Rise and U.S. Air Force sophomore all-American teams. Late last year, he earned the NUC’s Underclassmen of te Year award.

Well, since he is IN his sophomore year at Armwood, thats all there is.

He picked off three Philip Ely passes at Plant this past season.  He ran down a Dwyer player that was completely free and made a TD saving tackle in the state semifinal game.

He has excellent grades and his grandfather was a Tampa legend: Tampa Stadium was 'the house that Leon built"

His mother was a magnificent volleyball player.

He has an incredible smile.

Other than that, eh, ..he's ok.

It's pretty good, but not as fast as Carlton Mitchell or Sterling G ran it in HS, but they specialized in that event.

He does very well in multiple track events.
