nocom_recruiting_logoLSU is off this weekend, but that just means that the coaches' efforts will be channeled in a different direction.

The Tigers are still on course for a banner recruiting class for 2011. The prospects for 2012 are also on the radar.

Here is a peek how LSU is doing with the 2011 and '12 classes.

Zach Mettenberger (6'5 1/2, 250) continues to draw a great deal of attention and appears to be very receptive to LSU as a viable option. The former Georgia Bulldog is scheduled to visit Baton Rouge the weekend of the Ole Miss game. Texas A&M, Arizona, Cincinnati and Troy are the strongest challengers to LSU securing a commitment from Mettenberger.

Another quarterback possibility for 2011 is one-time Miami commitment Teddy Bridgewater (6'2-179), a 4 star prospect out of Miami, Fla. Bridgewater's teammate, wide receiver Eli Rogers, decommitted from the 'Canes last week which has shaken the confidence of the star signal caller in playing for Miami. Bridgewater has now decided to entertain other recruiting visits which could include LSU, Florida, Louisville and South Florida. Stay tuned.

Leon Mackey out of Hargrave Military Academy (6'5-260) signed with Clemson out of high school. The defensive end is fielding offers from LSU, Auburn, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Miss. State, Alabama and South Carolina.

Ray Drew (6'5-243) from Thomasville, Ga. stopped by Tigertown on Oct 1 and had a great visit. The Tigers may hold slight edge over South Carolina and Clemson. Auburn, Notre Dame, Fla. State, Tennessee and USC puuting on a big push for the 4-star defensive end.

QB Teddy Bridgewater says he will visit #USF #LSU #Louisville and #Gators, but Miami still is his school of choice.

I know we shouldn't say things on these boards that might affect a recruit's stance on us (they could possibly be reading these boards), but suffice it to say we have other QBs that have already committed and our system is likely to change under a new head coach.

I hope he doesn't commit here if he isn't ready to learn the system and compete for the starting job.

I'm sure Skip and his staff have conveyed that to him and he has agreed or he wouldn't still be interested in seeing what we have to offer. This young man is a heavily recruited player who has been through the grist mill already, I am sure. He has to know by now what he is looking for. We would be extremely fortunate to get someone with his skills in this recruiting class.

Bridgewater back for Bulls

BY ANDRE C. FERNANDEZ

a1fernandez@MiamiHerald.com

With the return of star quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Northwestern hoped to prove it was still a major contender in Class 6A.

A sharp start in both the first and second half demonstrated the Bulls are, at the very least, still the kings of the Soul Bowl rivalry.

In Bridgewater's first game back in nearly a month, he threw two touchdown passes to earn Most Valuable Player honors and lead Northwestern to a 28-19 victory against Jackson on Friday night in front of an estimated 6,000 spectators at Traz Powell Stadium.

``Teddy looked good out there, like he never left,'' senior wide receiver Eli Rogers said. ``He looked like he wasn't even hurt.''

Bridgewater completed 19 of 25 passes for 185 yards and threw both touchdowns to Amari Cooper. He wore a small protective brace on his left knee, the one in which he sprained an MCL during a loss to Columbus on Oct. 15.

The Bulls (8-2), ranked No. 5 in The Miami Herald's South Florida Top 20 Poll, will get a rematch with the undefeated Explorers (9-0) Thursday in a Region 4-6A quarterfinal at Tropical Park. The Generals (6-4) will play at Belen Jesuit next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a rematch of its Region 4-3A quarterfinal loss last season.

``The knee feels good,'' Bridgewater said. ``It didn't hurt at all [Friday night].''

If Bridgewater feels good, it's a good sign for a Northwestern offense that appears to be running the ball better than it has all season. Led by Jerrill Jenkins' 80 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries, the Bulls ran for 170 as a team.

Northwestern got a spark on the game's first play when Jaquan Lenard recovered a fumble on the Jackson 1-yard line. On the next play, Jenkins scored on a touchdown run. The Bulls took a 14-0 lead when Bridgewater found Cooper in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard strike.

• Northwestern senior running back and track and field star Hugh Graham Jr. was taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital with 3:42 left in the game after sustaining a helmet-to-helmet collision.

Graham Jr., a state champion in the 400 meters last season, was face down on the field before being attended to by team trainers. He had movement in his limbs as he was taken away for precautionary reasons.

Making Teddy and Eli a Bull this year would be a recruiting success in my opinion.

+1, especially since Stevie seems to be self destructing

I hope Teddy, Eli and Juwan Ceasar will take a close look at the Bulls and see the potential of being starter as freshmen.

If they didn't start a freshman over Daniels as a sophomore, what makes you assume they'll do it when he's a junior?
