I don't buy the bridge argument.  They'd put more people in the seats when they win ball games, whether they are in Tampa or St. Pete.  And that will never happen on a continual basis unless they change leagues or move.

When you won the World Series, you weren't  "spending very little". You're doing kind of okay THIS year, spending very little, because the NL sucks, overall.

the Yanks and the Sox have fan support. If the Rays spent that kind of cash they would be out of business.

Not true my friend, the Rays actually make more money then the Red Sux and Yankees.  New ownership has said they are gonna spend money this offseason.  This season has been promising at times.  We have won 7 out of 10 gameagainst the Sux at home this year so we can compete with them and we killed the Yankees last year.  We will compete with a little money put into our bullpen and a starting pitcher.

when we won in 03 our payroll was near the bottom

Maybe in Baseball Operations because they dont spend any. But when you factor in the YES network and merchandice I doubt the Rays make more.
