Conference Rookie of the Year Addison Maruszak of USF among those chosen by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball

Steve Blevins of Cincinnati was one of five BIG EAST players selected to Freshman All-American honors on Thursday

Tuscon, Ariz. - The future figures to be a bright one for BIG EAST baseball as five players were selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team as announced by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday. Cincinnati starting pitcher Steve Blevins and outfielder Josh Harrison, Notre Dame closer Kyle Weiland, USF shortstop Addison Maruszak and West Virginia outfielder Adam White were selected to the team, which consisted of the best handful of NCAA Division I first-year players from each position.

An All-BIG EAST Second Team pick, Blevins was 8-3 with a 4.95 ERA, while striking out 55 batters. He notched two complete games and became the winningest freshman pitcher in Bearcat history.

Harrison was selected to third team all-conference honors after hitting .348 with four home runs, 11 doubles and 34 RBI. He also stole nine bases.

Weiland was ranked second in saves with 16, according to the latest NCAA stats. He notched a 2.37 ERA while striking out 41 batters and walking 20 in 49.1 innings. He was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection.

Maruszak, the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year this season, helped drive the Bulls' late season run to a BIG EAST Championship berth. He hit .287 overall with 29 runs scored, 14 doubles, one triple, one home run and 26 RBI during the regular season.

White, an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree, batted .368 with six doubles, three triples, one home run and 27 RBI from the ninth spot in the Mountaineer lineup.
