TAMPA, MARCH 5, 2018 – USF freshman guard David Collins was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie team on Monday, recognizing his stellar freshman campaign for the Bulls.

The announcement of Collins' selection to the All-Rookie team comes one day after the freshman tied his career high in points with 21 in the victory over SMU to conclude the regular season. Collins got hot in the second half, scoring 18 in the closing frame, the most scored by a Bull in any half this season.

"I'd be hard pressed to say he's not the rookie of the year," USF head coach Brian Gregory said. "You look at statistical analysis, he's had as good of a freshman year as anyone in the league, and statistically probably better. I think he's second in scoring, first in assists, first in steals. He's had as good of a year as any freshman around, and he's had as big of an impact as any freshman."

Collins is the fourth Bull to ever be named to The American All-Rookie team. John Egbunu and Chris Perry both made the team in 2014, while Jahmal McMurray was the most recent in 2016.

Well deserved. I hope he gets ROY, but it might be hard to award it to a player from the last place team. He is going to be the face of the program for the next 3 years.

Been fun watching him mature through the season.  Good kid who plays hard in every game.  Lots of reasons to believe this team--which will have radically different personnel--can be .500 next season.   Have to like this coaching staff.

Good for him. He played like a star yesterday.

It's been quite awhile since we've had someone, that I can remember, with his athleticism going to the basket. He's like a contortionist at times and must hit 90% of them ...

History says otherwise. Having a player make the All-Rookie Team has not been a good thing for us....

We repented and sacrificed this season. The basketball gods have been satisfied.

Nice nod for DC, he's come along really well so yeah, I hope he stays. Would it help if we begged? Speaking of McRunaway, it was nice to see us own him & SMU on our senior night.

David Collins absolutely outplayed McMurray. :GoBulls: It was a wonderful thing to watch from our empty student section.

Hooray! Now David Collins and Justin Brown. Don’t transfer please! And get Yetna qualified! That’s been the major problem for continued growth of the program. Any player who has success has bolted. Hopefully under CBG, that changes.
