UCF is undefeated and beat Auburn (who beat Alabama no less).  I think they should have fun with it.  It is a nightmare for the P5 which will do all kinds of spinning.

We have to remove our UCF hate glasses for a moment and get some satisfaction where we can get it.  If it were us we would be doing the same thing.  Remember the Big 4 billboard?

http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21954302/ucf-not-first-school-call-national-champion

Another article from ESPN.

Plenty of charged words have been used to describe what UCF is doing.

Here's another word: tradition.

It's a proud tradition for college programs to claim national championships, even if virtually no one outside of their campuses acknowledges them. The sport's history books are filled with teams writing their own chapters.

Odds are, those eviscerating UCF root for a team that claims a questionable championship or four. Good luck finding a sport with more haziness surrounding its national championship. The Knights are merely the latest to crown themselves.

Is their title any less legitimate than the one claimed by Alabama in 1941? The Tide went 9-2 and finished third in the SEC and ranked No. 20 in the final AP poll, which was compiled before the bowl games. Even though Minnesota is the acknowledged national champion that season, Alabama claims a title because something called the Houlgate System selected the Tide as the top team.

Its funny, if you read the article, UCF is the latest in a long line of teams to do this.  Sometimes athletic departments look back at do it retroactively for decades old seasons.  Alabama has done it twice but they are not alone.

Um, yeah... No. This is just delusional. People will think they are nuts. Way worse than the Big 4 billboards.

You beat me by a couple of minutes.  As a supporter of a G5/AAC team I am pretty pissed that UCF was not part of the NC discussion.  We are eating the garbage they are shoveling if we think this is all on the up and up.

I said this in another thread:

"UCF went undefeated and we see the ceiling.  All the teams playing for the NC have at least one loss so the message is they don't need to be perfect to play in the NC.

All these G5 schools are killing themselves to achieve perfection when their big prize is the Peach Bowl - maybe."

I wrote that before UCF beat Auburn who beat Alabama.

If you don't want to get on board with an undefeated G5 team shouldn't be left out of the NC discussion under these circumstances that is up to you but I (and a lot of people I talk to) don't think its embarrassing, I think it is pretty smart.

Look, UCF certainly deserves the credit of beating Auburn...

But let's be real - Auburn had to play Clemson, Miss State, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama before they played UCF

The wear and tear on a team, after playing Clemson, Miss State, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Alabama is extensive. The injuries alone, the damage to the players, the wear and tear on the team and the student athletes... something has to be said about that

UCF beat an Auburn team, that was already beaten to a pulp from their season. Yes they beat them, but if UCF played Clemson, Miss State, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, and Alabama rolling into the Auburn game, there wouldn't be much left

Also, keep in mind that many of Auburn's players are going into the NFL. They aren't going to risk their professional athletic careers, playing a college with a cupcake schedule compared to theirs

Who remember's last year vs FSU? Imagine playing teams at that caliber, all year round. USF would be a bloody pulp at the end the season, and so would UCF

I'm just trying to make a point, that Auburn had to play the best teams in the country before rolling into that final game, UCF did not. UCF was good, but with Auburn's schedule, they wouldn't have batted .500, and neither would we.

Auburn had a month to rest for the Peach Bowl. The wear and tear is what caused them to lose the SEC championship game when their conference player of the year was a shell of himself due to a shoulder injury. That player had 27 carries against UCF even when he was a NFL prospect.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
