Does the credit go to Jean Marie or Strong?

Why even question it? BJM is the DC. Its like we must always question their success rather than just question it. Im sure CCS has his hand in the D, but BJM calls the plays

You have to give credit to both. BJM wouldn't be here if it wasn't for CCS.

I think it is tough to tease out how much was a well coached defense and how much was playing a very weak schedule. I do think he deserves props for what happened but the defense is also solely responsible for one of our losses (4 and 23!) and mostly responsible for the UCF shoot-out loss (special teams was pretty poor as well).

This to the bank. The defense didn't improve don't let the stats fool you. We had a supreme talent advantage in just about every game we played, making it LOOK like it improved. But in crunch against teams we knew could match us with athletes. We sucked it up and played some awful defense.

So you are saying that last season we were over matched athletically?

i remember the past 2-3 years, the defense got scored on even by bad teams. If u want 2 be a glass half empty-er than go ahead.

Thoughts...

1. Don't care about competition or stats... if you have eyes, you could tell the defense was better this year. Tackling was better, coverage by DBs was better, pressure on QBs was better, overall scheme was better.

2. I should hope that CCS has a hand in the defense. Not taking anything away from BJM, but, I think a lot of us give Leavitt credit for our most tenacious defenses. When a coach knows defense, he can't sit idle and let someone else screw up... Assistant coaches need to learn too, and when your boss is a defensive guru like Strong, BJM will learn a lot.

3. Not sure when it will get fixed, but, Strong/BJM inherited a pretty weak LB corps. If our LBs were up to par this year, the defense could have actually approached being special in my opinion. Injuries didn't help their either.

Because Jim Leavitt gets all or most of the credit for USF having amazing (even if flawed) defense over the years even though he wasn't calling the defenses. Charlie Strong is also a defensive guru. Should he not also be the one to get credit for our remarkable defensive improvements?

Our former DC Wally Burnham received a lot of credit for our defense under Leavitt.

Both CCS and CJL were very successful DC's prior to becoming HC's and both knew what they wanted in a DC and hired competent people to do that job.

So, there is much credit to go around.

Lol You know what, yiu are right. Illl give credit to both, b/c Charlie caught a lot of flack this year and he can use some "props' as well. And the defensive staff.
