UCF Kicker Rule ineligible

UCF kicker Donald De La Haye has been ruled ineligible by the NCAA.

Last month, De La Haye said he met with UCF’s compliance office about monetizing from the videos he posts on his popular YouTube channel. In a statement released Monday, UCF said it submitted a waiver to the NCAA on his behalf, asking if De La Haye could continue to create videos.

The NCAA granted the waiver — but with conditions. De La Haye “chose not to accept the conditions of the waiver,” UCF said, and was thusly “ruled ineligible to compete in NCAA-sanctioned competition.”

Such ******** and killing of entrepreneurial spirit. This day and age you are your brand and you should have 100% control of your image.

To be clear I am not saying that he wasn't breaking NCAA rules, I just think that the rules are going too far and are Un-American.

He can, the issue is that he wants to use UCFs name and image to make money

Not unAmerican.  He wanted to profit off the NCAA.  All they asked him to do was not use his football position when creating the YouTube videos. 

If you work with Acme Corp and create a bunch of very popular videos with Acme Corp logo and talking about Acme Corp, they will also ask you to cease and desist.

He had a choice, he made it. He did not file his seasonal paperwork, so he knew he was not going to play. IMO, setting up a gofundme, was just way over the top. He won a full scholly, after being a preferred walk on. Threw it all away IMO.

 

He should have taken the deal, unmonitize the previous video's, made a charity the benefactor, and made non UCF focused videos that would have been mentioned on TV, during every single national broadcast, all year long. Now, he is the answer to a future trivia question.
