From Joey's Day 1 camp column:

"If we go out there and take San Jose (State) lightly...you were here for McNeese State?" -- Sanchez, offering a rhetorical response to a question about the Bulls battling overconfidence this season

i'm without question nervous for the season but it seems like they definitely have a chip on their shoulder and are more cautious for season openers now. Houston and UCiF  the ones that concern me the most.

Same and they are at the end of the season when injuries and mental  fatigue could play a role. It's at that point where the coaches earn their money.

We do have 2 bye weeks but they are both relatively early in the season.

I like Auggie he says all the right things.  Defense has gotta step up.  Its been a rollercoaster between Bres, Allen, and Woodie.  Just like the Bucs we gotta find some badasses on D again.  (without the personal fouls though)

Looking forward to seeing a new attitude on defense this year.

Love that attitude. I sure as hell remember McNee... ah I can't even say it. The-school-who-must-not-be-named

That was one of many, many lows.  Nightmarish.

And I'm in the camp that we should have someone more skilled at that position instead of Auggie, but there's no denying that he is a valuable leader for us. We could have used some of that during the dark days.

The IQ is through the roof though. Auggie is the classic lunchpale player; always comes to work and always plays hard.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
