TAMPA, JUNE 28, 2017 – The University of South Florida men's basketball team will battle one of the most prestigious programs in the country when the Bulls play at Indiana in the 2017 Hoosier Tip-Off Classic.

The five-team tournament will begin when USF visits Assembly Hall to take on the Hoosiers on Sunday,  Nov .19. The contest will mark the Bulls' first-ever game against the Big Ten program. The Hoosier Tip-Off Classic also includes Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, and Howard, which will all play at USF in late November.

“We are happy to be a part of the Hoosier Tip-Off Classic,” said USF head men's basketball coach Brian Gregory. “This will be a great road challenge I know our guys will embrace. We are also looking forward to hosting some of the Tip-Off Classic games at the Sun Dome and building a strong home environment here in Tampa.”

About USF Men's Basketball

The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory brings nearly 250 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship, to Tampa.

USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times.

This is a relatively new invention. Having games in multiple cities makes teams signing up more appealing. If all the games were at IU, getting 4 teams to come in would be tough, who wants to play 4 road games with no return games. By setting it up like this, IU gets 4 home games they never have to return. Other schools get a mix of home and road games plus the game at IU.

Is there a trophy ... with the winner having the best record in the round robin format?

Found this article with info I also didn't know:

The Hoosier Tip-Off Classic is designated as a Multi-Team Event (MTE) which counts as only one game against a team's limit of games that it is allowed to play in a season.

The complete schedule from same article:

2017 Hoosier Tip-Off Classic Schedule
Sunday, Nov. 12 — Howard at Indiana
Thursday, Nov. 16 — Arkansas State at Eastern Michigan
Saturday, Nov. 18 — Howard at Eastern Michigan
Sunday, Nov. 19 — South Florida at Indiana
Monday, Nov. 20 — Howard at Arkansas State
Wednesday, Nov. 22 — Arkansas State at Indiana, Howard at South Florida
Friday, Nov. 24 — Eastern Michigan at Indiana, Arkansas State at South Florida
Sunday, Nov. 26 — Eastern Michigan at South Florida

Friday, Nov. 24 — Eastern Michigan at Indiana, Arkansas State at South Florida

You can see the pecking order, everyone plays 4 games:

IU - 4 home games

USF - 3 home games

EMU - 2 home games

Arkansas State - 1 home game

Howard - Life on the road is great.

That MTE where it only counts as 1 game against the total you are allowed to play is news to me. I thought that only applied outside of the 48 states (which is why so many mini tournaments in Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto RIco, etc. )
