The problem is we don't play on the road enough, especially out of state.  This will knock them down a peg and hopefully help in the long run.

This sucks

Bye bye regional. Even if we win out, we're unlikely to host.

Bulls Swept In Friday’s Doubleheader to Huskies

STORRS, CONN., MAY 12, 2017 – The University of South Florida baseball team faced yet another strong pitching performance from UConn and fell in game two of Friday's doubleheader, 6-2.

The Huskies (28-20, 12-8 The American) scored twice in the first to take an early lead. The Bulls (38-12, 12-8 The American) got one back in the second, but then UConn answered to make it 3-1 after the third.

Sophomore David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) hit a solo shot in seventh to make it 3-2, before the hosts answered again in the bottom half. UConn added two more in the eighth to take a 6-2 advantage which was ultimately the final score to complete Friday's sweep.

Key Stats

  • Redshirt-freshman Shane McClanahan (Cape Coral, Fla.) got into a groove after the first and retired nine-straight at one point. He went 6.0 innings, gave up six hits, four runs and struck out eight.
  • Junior Duke Stunkel. Jr. (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) went 1-for-4 with a run scored. He had three hits in the two games Friday.
  • Redshirt-junior Andres Leal (Tampa) drove in USF's first run and went 1-for-3.

Notables

  • Villar's homer was his fifth of the season.
  • This is just the second series loss of the year for USF. The Bulls dropped the first two games at Tulane to open conference play before winning the finale.
  • There is currently a four-way tie for first in the league entering tonight's games. Houston and UCF are also 12-8 and begin road series at Tulane and Cincinnati, respectively.

Up Next

USF and UConn conclude the three-game set Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The game that was originally slated for 1:00 was moved up due to expected rain.

Sounded as if it was really cold and dreary, guys aren't used to playing in those conditions. They almost played slow. Didn't love the idea of the doubleheader starting at 11 but it's o excuse. The bats were cold, reminded me of the tulane series. Hit into doubleplays and left a ton on base. Need to win tomorrow, conference championship needs to be the prime directive here. C already won.

It's baseball.  Losses happen, and UConn is pretty good.  Just need to win tomorrow and finish strong.  We also have the conference tournament after next weekend.

Yeah here's a thought. The automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament only go to the Conference Tournament Champs correct? What happens if someone wins the regular season crown, but another wins the conference tourney? Does the team that wins the regular season just add that to the resume as opposed to punching their ticket?
