Baseball and Women's Soccer post program record APR scores

Football team posts program record single-year APR

TAMPA, MAY 10, 2017– University of South Florida Athletics saw all 18 of its evaluated programs post a score of 952 or better for the second straight year when the NCAA released its most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data Wednesday.

All of USF's evaluated programs exceeded the NCAA's minimum APR standard score of 930. The American Athletic Conference champion women's tennis program posted a perfect score of 1,000 for the seventh-straight report and joined the women's golf program, which posted a perfect 1,000 for the fourth-consecutive year. Both programs were honored by the NCAA last week with Public Recognition Awards. USF teams have received a total to 18 such honors in the last six reports.

All nine USF women's teams earned an APR score of 977 or higher, with softball and women's soccer posting 990 or better. The women's soccer program, under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown, posted a record multi-year APR score of 990, while the baseball program, under head coach Mark Kingston, also posted a record multi-year APR score of 972.

USF had great success in its most recent single-year APR scores for 2015-16. The football program posted a record single-year APR score of 990, while seven USF athletic programs recorded a perfect score of 1,000 for the 2015-16 academic year. Those programs included men's golf, which has claimed three straight American Athletic Conference titles, and women's basketball, which has earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament bids. Women's cross country, women's golf, women's tennis, women's track and field and women's volleyball also posted perfect scores for 2015-16.

“USF student-athletes continue to achieve in the classroom,” USF Director of Athletics Mark Harlan said. “We are pleased with our latest APR scores and the continued work of our fantastic academic services staff and coaches in fulfilling our commitment to the total student-athlete experience. We continue to provide a strong platform from which our student-athletes can achieve their academic goals.”

USF has 73 student-athletes slated to earn their degree during spring commencement ceremonies this weekend.

Men's Basketball took a hit but their long term average keeps them safe.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
