38-10 now.  Needed its own thread.  First time we've beaten both UF and FSU in the same season since 1989...first time we've beaten them both on the road in the same year ever!

Go Bulls!

Offense Erupts as Bulls Stomp out Gators Tuesday
USF tallied a season-high 15 runs behind 13 hits and 17 walks

GAINESVILLE, MAY 9, 2017 – The University of South Florida baseball team compiled 13 hits and scored its second-most runs all-time against Florida in Tuesday night’s 15-10 win.

The Bulls (38-10, 12-6 The American) have now defeated then No. 3 Florida State and No. 5 Florida this season, marking the first time they have done so in the same year since 1989.

USF struck early on a Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) two-run homer. The Gators (35-14, 16-8 SEC) got one back on a solo shot in the second, but the Bulls responded in the next half inning.

The visitors scored six runs on four hits to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The advantage got up to as much as 13-3 after the Bulls plated a pair in the sixth and seventh.

After USF manufactured its second 10-run lead with two in the ninth, the Gators plated five in the bottom half but the lead was large enough to hold onto.

Key Stats

  • Freshman D.J. Roberts (Jacksonville) had his best outing, going 7.0 innings allowing just two earned runs while striking out four.
  • Eight USF hitters had at least one hit with either a run scored or a RBI.
  • The Bulls walked a season-high 17 times and had eight extra-base hits.
  • Genord went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.
  • Junior Kevin Merrell (Odessa, Fla.) had just one hit but had three RBI.
  • Senior Luke Borders (Winter Haven, Fla.) scored three runs, drove in two runs and walked three times.
  • Sophomores Coco Montes (Miami), David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Garrett Zech (Naples, Fla.) each had two hits with a combined seven runs.

Notables

  • The win marks the first against the Gators since 2012, snapping a six-game losing streak.
  • It also marks the first time in program history that the Bulls defeated both FSU and Florida on the road in the same season.
  • The 15 runs are the most for the Bulls since March 29, 2015.
  • The Bulls improve to 7-4 on the road and 8-2 in midweek games this season.
  • The Bulls clubbed double-digit hits for the 28th time this year.

I am, fortunately, but unfortunately it is plausible.

Really nice midweek win for @USFBaseball. They were discussed in our hosting debate this week. This helps.

We were also talked about in the weekly Baseball America podcast.  Good pub for our Bulls!
