As I was looking at the scores across the country, I noticed Wichita State is in good position to win the MVC men's golf title. For those you ******** about the addition of WSU to the AAC, they've won the conference 8 times since 2008.

I think most of the ******** was about their football team ...

On Temple's thread, they asked why we play basketball.

BULLS COMPLETE THREE-PEAT AT CONFERENCE TOURNEY

Quotables

Head coach Steve Bradley on the Bulls capturing their third straight conference title:

“It feels good. These guys have just battled and played exceptionally in the month of April, when their backs were against the wall. They responded to adversity and they played the golf course very well. They played for themselves, they played for each other, and it was an awesome week.”

:D

I often ask myself why I golf.  Seemed sort of relevant at the moment.   They have to be questioning..... Golf can do that to you.

One thing I'll be following closely through July is who will end up  #1 WAGR.

Right now Maverick McNealy (Stanford) is #1.

Maverick McNealy

  • 1WAGR POSITION
  • UNITED STATESCOUNTRY
  • 1327.4500 POINTS AVERAGE

http://www.wagr.com/en/Ranking/Player.aspx?playerid=11633&ismens=True

USF '17 signee Joaquin Niemann is #2;

Joaquin Niemann

  • 2WAGR POSITION
  • CHILECOUNTRY
  • 1262.5791 POINTS AVERAGE

Niemann will draw closer to him tomorrow, when his victory at the Junior Invitational will be added.

Why is it important for Niemann to be #1 by August?

Because of the McCormack Medal.

McCormack Medal

McCormack-Medal-2015.ashx?h=173&la=en&w=

The award is named after Mark H McCormack, the late founder of sports marketing company IMG and an avid supporter of amateur golf. The Mark H McCormack Medal is awarded to the player ranked number one in the WORLD AMATEUR GOLF RANKINGTM after the European Amateur Championship or U.S. Amateur Championship, whichever concludes the last.

Mark H. McCormack Medal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mark H. McCormack Medal is presented annually by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews to the leading player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after the last 'elite' event of the season. The award is named after World Golf Hall of Famer Mark McCormack, who was an avid supporter of golf and the founder of IMG.[1]

In 2011, New Zealand's Lydia Ko was awarded the first ever women's Mark H. McCormack Medal,[2] a trophy she retained in 2012[3] and 2013.

Beginning in 2012, the previous year's men's winner receives an invitation to both the U.S. Open and The Open Championship provided he remains an amateur.[4][5]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_H._McCormack_Medal

McNealy won the medal last year. He is a senior at Stanford and is tied with Tiger Woods for most college victories.

Unlike most world class college golfers, McNealy might NOT turn professional:

"Despite being America's most highly rated professional golf prospect in 2016, McNealy has said he is seriously considering passing on professional golf for a career in business.[4][5]

His father, Scott McNealy, co-founded Sun Microsystems, which was acquired by Oracle Corporation for $7.4 billion in 2010.

It would be great to see a USF player in both the U.S. Open and the Open Championship!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
