USF shoots for a three-peat at the American Athletic Conference April 23-25 in Palm Harbor, Fla."

USF, UCF and Houston are the conference favorites. However, all three teams are possibly on the "bubble" and will need to win or have a high finish in the AAC championship to secure a spot in an NCAA regional.

Meanwhile. three of our future players are competing today at the prestigious TaylorMade-adidas Golf Junior at Innisbrook.

Niemann leads the field through two rounds at 2-under-par 140

  • Joaquin Niemann of Santiago, Chile, leads the field through two rounds after carding a 4-under-par 67 for a 2-under-par 140 tournament total. The University of South Florida verbal commit tallied five birdies in the round to take the top spot.

Niemann (USF 2017 Class) is currently ranked #3 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

4th place is Luke Gifford (USF 2018 Class).

T8th Won Jun Lee (#90 WAGR USF 2017 Class)

I would not be surprised to see Niemann ranked #1 in the world at some point in 2017.

The future for USF Men's Golf is very bright.

Head coach Steve Bradley’s thoughts heading into Sunday:

“We’ve had a pretty good April and I think everyone is pretty confident in their game right now. It’s a golf course that we got a chance to play twice over the past month or so. Several of them played it in junior golf, so it’s one they’re fairly familiar with. I think it’s going to play a little differently than what they’ve seen with the lack of rain. It’s pretty firm and fast, and everyone will have to adjust to that."

Bradley on the overall strength of the conference this season:

“The conference is pretty deep. In the past, I think we’ve had a couple teams ranked a little better than what we see this year, but the depth of this conference is really good. We’re going to put at least three teams, possibly even five out nine, into NCAA Regionals. When you have a conference like that, you know you need to go out and play well. With this golf course, the best team is going to win. It’s not a fluke golf course and you’re not going to be able to get lucky out here. The team that wins this will have played the best and certainly have earned it. There are many teams in our conference that have the ability to win, we just hope we’re the one.”
