Anyone heard about him being on the radar for the MBB job?   He cleaned up quite a mess at Seton Hall created by Bobby Gonzalez, so maybe he is the cleaner for Antigua?

Why would he leave Seton Hall and the Big East to come here?

Because Pitino wanted him to coach at USF not that long ago.

I vaguely remember something about Pitino pushing a coach for USF. Was that when we got Stan or when we got Masiello/Antigua?

Masiello is a part of the Pitino coaching tree so you probably remember him pushing for Masiello.

I think you're right.

Ralph Willard was a candidate for the USF job at least once, if not twice in the last 20 years. I think when we hired McCollum.

The Pitino angle is what i heard as well.  Willard looked into the Holy Cross job last year, so he is definitely looking for a good landing spot.  He knows a lot of the Antigua recruits as he was looking at them when Antigua was at Seton Hall, so he has some familiarity.

Willard is a great defensive coach, and hopefully USF can pull this off.  Much better than what we have been getting lately.

You are correct!! Pitino has said that USF should look at Willard before we hired Stan Heath.  Pitino advised USF to look at Maisello which we hired & fired.

Just so there's no confusion, the Willard Mike's referring to is Kevin Willard's father, who is the associate head coach at Louisville ...

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
