Santos Has Career Day in Road Loss

The sophomore posted 16 points off the bench, going 7-for-7 from the floor

NEW ORLEANS, FEB. 18, 2017 – The University of South Florida men’s basketball team (7-19, 1-14) lost 94-71 at Tulane (5-21, 2-12) on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore forward Luis Santos (Bronx, N.Y.) shot a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, setting a new career high with 16 points, all off the bench.

The Bulls faced an early deficit at Devlin Fieldhouse but redshirt freshman forward Tulio Da Silva (Brazil) kept USF close by scoring the team’s first eight points.
Leading 12-10, Tulane then tallied a dozen consecutive points to establish a double-digit advantage and head into halftime with a 44-26 edge.

Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) who was mired in first half foul trouble, helped USF lower the difference to 12 points with 6:41 remaining. He scored 19 of his team-high 22 points after halftime but Tulane extended the lead late to hold on for the win.

Bartow on Santos’ performance:
“Luis gave heart and soul. He has a mean streak in him when he is on the court. He was fantastic.”
