The Bulls were recently defeated, 68-54, by No. 18 Cincinnati on Wednesday. Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) tallied a game-high 19 points in the contest. Redshirt freshman forward Tulio Da Silva (Brazil) grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds for USF. Thorpe is averaging 19 points per game over the last three contests. He has recorded 17 double-figure point games this season. The Opponent Tulane (4-21, 1-12 The American) was defeated in its last game, 80-75, at No. 19 SMU. The Green Wave were up, 42-27, at the half until the Mustangs rallied in the second half to secure the win. Redshirt junior guard Cameron Reynolds posted a team-high 26 points in the loss. TU is currently in 10th place in The American's conference standings. The Green Wave were projected to finish last. Tulane's defense yields a league-high 79.8 points per game. Reynolds leads the team in points per game (16.2) and rebounds per game (6.7). Tulane leads the all-time series 19-13, including a 10-5 edge in New Orleans. The Bulls will look to even up the season series following a home loss to Tulane (1/11). Notables The Bulls are shooting 36 percent on three-pointers, third-best in The American. USF is fifth in conference play in steals per game (5.8). Under Coach Bartow’s guidance, the Bulls are averaging seven made three-pointers per game, up from five. USF is also making free throws at a 68 percent clip, a four percent jump. The team is averaging 12.8 assists per game after Bartow became the team’s interim head coach. Guard Geno Thorpe has averaged 19.3 points per game since returning from an injury on Feb. 5. Thorpe ranks first in The American in free throw percentage (.871), third in assists per game (4.5), sixth in steals per game (1.5), and eighth in scoring (14.4). Junior center Ruben Guerrero (Spain) has 111 blocks at USF, seventh-most in program history. He needs two more blocks to pass Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (2009-13) for sixth place at USF. The Bulls have used 14 different starting lineups this season, third most in Division 1 men’s basketball. (Chicago State and Evansville, 16). This year, USF is one of four NCAA Division I teams with no seniors on its roster. The other three are Bradley, Penn State and UT-Rio Grande Valley. There's a LOT OF WORK ahead for the next HC and he'll need to get started asap of finding quality assistants and potential talent to come to USF.
