TAMPA, FEB. 14, 2017 – Fresh off the Bulls’ first conference win of the season, the University of South Florida men’s basketball team hosts No. 18/17 Cincinnati on Wednesday night.

USF defeated East Carolina, 64-57, in the Sun Dome on Saturday. Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) posted 22 points and eight assists to fuel the Bulls’ victory. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak for USF.

The Bulls defense played a major role in the win, holding the Pirates scoreless for 7:06 leading into and out of halftime. ECU shot just 27 percent in the opening stanza as the Bulls built a double-digit halftime advantage. It was also the first time this season that the Bulls outscored their opponent in all specialty stats (points in the paint, off turnovers, second chance, fast break, and bench).

Promotions

The first 1,000 fans at the Sun Dome will receive a free USF hat.

In February, the Bulls are also participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Three-Point Challenge. For every made three this month, fans have the opportunity to pledge money to help the Bulls fight cancer. Learn more HERE.

The Opponent

Cincinnati (22-3, 11-1 The American) enters the midweek contest following a 60-51 loss at No. 25 SMU on Sunday. The defeat brought an end to the team's 15-game win streak.

The Bearcats are currently second in the conference standings behind SMU. Cincinnati was projected to win The American in the preseason coaches' poll.

UC leads the conference in scoring offense (76.0 points per game) and ranks second in scoring defense (61.2).

Forward Kyle Washington is recording team-highs of 13.6 points per game and 38 blocks. Forward Gary Clark is pulling in a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game.

UC holds the 30-8 lead in the all-time series but six of those losses have come on the road at USF.

The Bearcats won the previous meeting this season (1/29). Freshman guard Michael Bibby (Phoenix) netted a career-high 17 points. The Bulls were playing without guard Geno Thorpe (injury).

USF will be looking to earn its first win over a ranked opponent since upsetting No. 19 Louisville, 58-51, on the road (2/29/12).

Two miracles in two nights?  You ARE the optimist - or very devout in whatever religion you may practice.
