TAMPA, FEB. 10, 2017 – The University of South Florida men’s basketball returns home from a two-game road swing to host East Carolina on Saturday night.

USF will be holding its annual “Bulls Against Cancer” game in conjunction with Moffitt Cancer Center. The Bulls will wear special white uniforms with yellow numbers and ribbon patches.

In February, the Bulls are also participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Three-Point Challenge. For every made three this month, fans have the opportunity to pledge money to help the Bulls fight cancer. Learn more HERE.

The Opponent

ECU has won two of its last three games entering the road contest at USF. Most recently, the Pirates topped Tulane, 74-65, on Feb. 4. Senior guard Caleb White netted 20 points in the win.

The team was projected to finish seventh in The American’s preseason coaches’ poll, but is currently ninth in the league standings.

The Pirates average a league-low 61.6 points per game but yield 63.6 points per game, fourth best in The American.

B.J. Tyson (11.9), Kentrell Barkley (11.8) and Caleb White (10.8) all average double figure points per game.

ECU won the prior meeting with USF this season, 60-49, on Dec. 28, despite a team-high 18 points from Bulls’ junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh).

USF holds a narrow 7-6 lead in the all-time series with the Pirates. The Bulls are ahead, 3-2, in meetings in Tampa.

Notables

  • The Bulls are shooting 36 percent on three-pointers, third-best in The American.
  • USF is fifth in conference play with 6.0 steals per game.
  • Under Coach Bartow’s guidance, the Bulls are averaging seven made three-pointers per game, up from five. USF is also averaging 13.4 assists per game after Bartow became the team’s interim head coach.
  • Guard Geno Thorpe has averaged 18.0 points per game since returning from an injury.
  • Thorpe ranks second in The American in free throw percentage (.859), fifth in assists per game (4.5), sixth in steals per game (1.5), and 10th in scoring (13.8).
  • Junior center Ruben Guerrero (Spain) has 109 blocks at USF, seventh-most in program history. He needs three more blocks to tie Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (2009-13) for sixth place at USF.
  • The Bulls have used 13 different starting lineups this season (Evansville leads the nation with 15).
  • This year, USF is one of four NCAA Division I teams with no seniors on its roster. The other three are Bradley, Penn State and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
  • The next USF Basketball Radio Show will be on Monday, Feb. 13 from World of Beer on Fowler Ave. Join interim head coach Murry Bartow and the voice of the Bulls, Jim Lighthall, for the one-hour show starting at 7 p.m. Listen live on 820-AM or online at GoUSFBulls.com.

That's how he spells it.  You can sort of understand the shortage of As growing up in Alabama.
