TAMPA, JAN. 16, 2017 – Take a look ahead at the week in USF Athletics and catch up on last week’s action:

No. 19 Football

Last Week: USF landed in the final Associated Press and Amway Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings for the first time in program history, finishing a record-breaking 2016 season at No. 19. Learn more HERE… Quarterback Quinton Flowers was named the 2017 College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Year… Head coach Charlie Strong announced the additions of Matt Mattox as offensive line coach and run game coordinator, Justin Burke as tight ends and special teams coach, and Corey Bell as defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator.

No. 23 Women’s Basketball (14-2, 3-1)

This Week: Head coach Jose Fernandez goes after his 300th career win when USF hosts Memphis 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sun Dome… USF finishes the week with a huge home test against No. 9 Louisville on Sunday at 2 p.m. Home game tickets can be purchased at USFBullsTix.com or by calling 1-800-Go-Bulls.

Last Week: USF bounced back from a 102-37 loss at top-ranked UConn on Jan. 10 with a 79-48 home win over East Carolina on Jan. 14. Ariadna Pujol, Kitija Laksa and Maria Jespersen each scored at least 20 points in the Bulls’ 13th consecutive home victory. USF is 7-0 at the Sun Dome this season.

Need to Know: Fernandez is already the winningest coach in USF history (299-228). With one more victory, he will become the third active coach in the American Athletic Conference to reach 300 career wins.

Men’s Basketball (6-10, 0-5)

This Week: The War on I-4 Rivalry series with UCF continues 7 p.m. Tuesday in Orlando… USF returns to the Sun Dome to host Tulsa on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Last Week: After trailing by 16 midway through the second half, USF pulled within two points late in a 62-56 loss at Memphis on Jan. 14… Geno Thorpe, Ruben Guerrero and Luis Santos scored in double figures in an 82-67 loss to Tulane on Jan. 11.

Men’s Soccer

Last Week: Marcus Epps and Lindo Mfeka were selected in the second round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Jan. 13. Epps was picked 25th overall by the Philadelphia Union. Mfeka went 28th overall to the San Jose Earthquakes. Learn more HERE… Round three of the MLS SuperDraft will begin Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Need to Know: USF has had 23 players selected in the MLS Draft, and 28 players either drafted or signed since 1996.

Next Event: ITA Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 28-29 in Gainesville.

Last Week: USF swept FGCU in doubles and singles competition on the final day of the FGCU Spring Invite on Jan. 15.

This Week: USF continues its indoor season at the GVSU Open on Friday in Allendale, Mich.

Last Week: Jessica Taylor (5k), Michael Babinec (5k), Joe Fogarasi (pole vault) and Stephanie Lambeth (pole vault) won their events in the season opener at the UAB Invitational on Jan. 13. Check out the recap HERE.

Men’s Golf

Last Week: Head coach Steve Bradley announced the addition of Brad Caldwell to his staff as the Bulls’ new assistant coach. Caldwell joins the Bulls for the spring season after playing full-time on PGA Tour Canada in 2016. Prior to his second stint in pro golf, Caldwell served as head men’s and women’s golf coach at North Greenville University, his alma mater. Learn more about Caldwell HERE.

Baseball
