Bulls Prepare for Road Test at Memphis

TAMPA, JAN. 13, 2017 – The University of South Florida men’s basketball team returns to the road on Saturday when the Bulls visit Memphis.

This will be the first of back-to-back road games for USF, who will also travel to UCF on Tuesday.

In the last road game, the Bulls hit a season-best 11 three-pointers at SMU (Jan. 7). USF also controlled the ball to the tune of 16 assists, a season high, and 11 turnovers, a season low.

Most recently, three Bulls tallied double figures in the team’s last game against Tulane (Jan. 11). Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) posted 16 points, his 11th double figure point total this year. Junior center Ruben Guerrero (Spain) and sophomore forward Luis Santos (Bronx, N.Y.) combined to provide 24 points and nine rebounds for USF at the five spot.

The Opponent

Memphis enters the matchup with USF following an 81-71 loss at Tulsa (Jan. 7). Three Tigers also compiled double figure point totals including a team-best 19 from redshirt junior guard Markel Crawford. Memphis leads The American in points per game (79.8) and has the second best shooting percentage (.474)

Memphis leads the all-time series with USF 22-4 but the Bulls won the most recent meeting, 80-71, at home on Feb. 20, 2016.

Notables

  • Junior guard Geno Thorpe (Pittsburgh) is second in The American in free throw percentage (.857), fourth in steals (1.4) and seventh in assists (4.0).
  • Redshirt freshman forward Tulio Da Silva(Brazil) has grabbed the fourth-most rebounds in the conference (7.8).
  • Junior center Ruben Guerrero (Spain) has 102 blocks at USF, tied with Augustus Gilchrist (2008-12) for seventh most in program history.
  • The Bulls are third in The American in three-point percentage (.358), and fifth in steals (5.9).
  • USF has outscored the opponent by 105 points in the paint this year.
  • This season, the Bulls are one of four NCAA Division I teams with no seniors on its roster. The other three are Bradley, Penn State and UT-Rio Grande Valley.

once Dedric woke up, the game seemed to change...Murry had USF ready though, got em off to a quick start...but reality seems to be kicking in.
