You can't compare them IMO because how the landscape changed. The feel this season seems very different from '07.

What's interesting is to look at the attendance. It appears that our fan base nucleus has in fact grown as most opponents in 2016 did not have the draw that many teams did in 2007.

It's good to remember how young the program is. If they keep winning, kids and grandkids will become lifelong bulls fans.

One of my favorite websites to play with, WhatIfSports, allows you to simulate hypothetical historical matchups. According to the computer:

'07 USF - 34, '16 USF 23

Box Score: https://www.whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=8441503&nomenu=1#.WHbSyinH3nA.custom&title=WhatIfSports.com: College Football Boxscore

I ran it again, and the 2016 team won 30-10

The question is which was a better year, not what was a better team.  This past season was the best overall season by far.

I ran it again and you are correct. 2016 won 34-17 case closed.

Ran it one last time and boom 2016 for the win.

2007 gave me goose bumps multiple times.  2016 gave us more on paper, but not the same emotional intensity  2007 did for me.  Those intense highs of 2007 have been unmatched since then.  No other moment can match the feeling I had at the WVU game.

Another plus was the Auburn win.  My kids go to Auburn and I relish reminding them about it on a regular basis.

Excellent topic BTW.

Basically you have the 2007 WVU game and the weeks prior against a whole season. 2016 is progress and my pick.

Apis is correct.  It is asking which is the better season, not team.  2016 easily wins.  11 wins versus 9 wins.  2 losses versus 4 losses.  Our first ever final year ranking trumps being #2 for a week.  In fact I'm tired of hearing about that, it was 10 years ago and doesn't mean anything when you lose the next three weeks and drop out after an embarrasing bowl defeat.

I think this post displays the ability of one's mind to remember only good things and block out the bad.  I wish I was better at doing that because I remember feeling pretty miserable about the 2007 team after the collapse at Rutgers and the remainder of the season - including lugging my tv out to Fort Desoto on a camping trip to watch the bowl game and drinking away that embarrassment.  I got nothing out of that season other than being overrated as a result of over achieving early on.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
