It was lack of a passing game that did Bama outside one freak play they were not a threat to pass.

We really need to recruit well the Dline lack of pressure from the front 4 hurt us this year. Both teams had great Dlines.

Alabama got ahead by two scores and got too conservative on offense until it was too late.  If anything last night shows why you keep attacking on offense even if you have a lead.

I wonder if they still go that conservative with a more seasoned qb. Hurtt looked like a true freshman at times last night.

I think the playcalling was bad as a whole but even worse when they got ahead.  They never attacked enough down the field to loosen Clemson's defense up.  Most of their playcalls were between the tackles and only 10-15 yds deep on most passing attempts.  I think they really missed Joey Freshwater last night.

Bama gave up 511 yds and 35 points.   Clemson gave up 376 yds and 31 points.

I'm all for scoring as fast and as much as possible, then play good defense. I've said it before and I'll say it again, and again, and again. The defense should only need THREE PLAYS or less to get off the field.

Not really sure what anyone means when they talk about slowing our offense down.  We had a lot of plays that went for long runs or long passes for TDs.  Do we just tell the guys to fall down at the 20 on a break away run?

You can't run an offense by not taking some shots down the field.  The idea of throwing downfiled is to keep the defense from loading everyone up front.  Do that and we are back to year 1 of the Taggart offense.

We have dynamic playmakers on this offense.

The only thing I can think of that would pertain to slowing down our offense is maybe more ball control in the form of not snapping the ball until there are 3 or 4 seconds left on the play clock, but with the new OC coming from the Briles school of offense I don't see that happening.

First of all Gilbert's offense ran faster than Taggart's. The difference is in garbage time and when you have a lead. I'm convinced Strong is looking at the Navy game as an example of what not to do with a lead. The play calling was bad, with backups in, and they would only take 10 sexonds off the clock. You can still run a fast spread and take time off the clock too. Defense can't sub when you run to the LOS.

I thought our play calling vs SMU with lead was bad also..like said you can play fast but eat up the clock at same time.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
