From the practice chatter it sounds like Sands could be that guy as he has a similar skill set to MM. It would be better for the program for one of the younger guys to step up so our backfield won't be so green in 2018. I'd like to see Johnson Sands Tice/Mack (If Tice does get the extra year) Totally agree about the green-ness reduction, so I'd go a step further to want to see Sands ahead of Johnson. That is, of course, if he earns it but I like the idea of keeping DJ as a utility player more than a dedicated/featured back.

If he's somewhat equal to the other backs, he has EARNED his time in the sun. Give him the rock next year. The younger backs can wait their turn like Johnson did.

I think there are plenty of weapons. I'm going to guess McCants steps up.

Agreed Johnson should get first touches he been productive and does everything well and should have a strong season. I know in the offense we ran this past season RB's were constantly being moved around and even on the field together to create mismatches. This lead to lots of touches to go around with an extra RB lined up in the slot or out wide while another was in the backfield. I don't know enough about Gilbert to know if he will do the same thing but I imagine that DJ's versatility should be taken advantage of.
