No. 22/25 USF Opens The American at Tulane

TAMPA, JAN. 3, 2016 – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team enters American Athletic Conference action with its best start in the league’s four-year history. The Bulls carry an 11-1 record to Tulane Wednesday for their conference opener at 8 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN3.

No. 22/25 USF (11-1) opens the conference slate on the road for the second consecutive season and is 2-1 in The American openers. The Bulls are fresh off a 14-point win over visiting Stetson Friday thanks to two stellar performances by conference freshman of the week Tamara Henshaw (Palm Coast, Fla.) and junior Maria Jespersen (Arhus, Denmark), who made the weekly honor roll. Henshaw became just the third freshman in the league to total a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Junior Laia Flores (Mataro, Spain) continues to guide a Bulls offense that averages 80.0 points per game. Flores averages 7.1 assists per game, which ranks 12th in NCAA Division 1, but her 4.05 Assist/Turnover Ratio leads the country.

The Opponent

USF and the Tulane will meet for the 34th time in program history. The Green Wave holds a 19-14 series advantage and an 8-6 advantage in New Orleans. USF won both meetings last season, including a 71-67 win at Devlin Fieldhouse. The Bulls have won the last five meetings.

Tulane (10-4) opened conference action at East Carolina on New Year’s Eve and easily ran past the Pirates 61-45. The Green Wave are riding an 11-game home win streak that dates back to Feb. 3 of last season. Tulane averages 66.5 points per game and is led by Kolby Morgan and Leslie Vorpahl with 17.9 and 11.1 points per game respectively.
