Honestly, am I being unrealistic? Look at our schedule vs who we are bringing back from our team that just went 11-2. I personally think we were the best team in the AAC this year. With what should be an improved D next year and a weaker AAC I can't envision a loss to any conference foe next year.

Illinois, San Jose St, & UMass went a combined 9-27 this season. Stony Brook had a losing record as a FCS team. Losing to any of those teams wouldn't be a total disappointment?

Hell, I'm not saying we will or should be in the playoffs and be a perennial national powerhouse. I'm just saying everything points to an improved team, weaker conference, and weaker schedule overall. So going from 11-2 to 14-0 doesn't feel like much of a leap to me. But if you enjoy setting your goals and expectations low then have fun with that. Go Bulls!

Not that at all.  It's the idea that if we don't go undefeated we should all be depressed.  This was the thought process we had a few years ago.  Every loss was a complete meltdown.

Then we found out that things could get a lot worse.

It will be great if we do undefeated.  But we don't need to have a complete meltdown if we lose a game, or three.

If we go 12-2 and win the conference I will be elated. I've experienced all the highs and lows of the past. I remember the Pat Julmiste/Ronnie Banks era when I  thought it couldn't get any worse. And then I learned it could. I was at the WVU & UCF games in 2007 and didn't think it could possibly get better than that. I think this year it did.

That's the beauty of following a team you love. If you stick around long enough you'll get to experience just about every emotion there is with them. I don't think expectations are a bad thing. Especially if they're realistic.

Again, no problem with hopes and dreams.  It is the bombastic negativity in minor defeat that is the enemy.

Obviously you hope to go undefeated but there are plenty of things that can happen to alter that. I'm curious to see whom CCS brings in to round out his staff. Im curious to see what affect on recruiting the coaching change will have (positive or negative.) I'm curious what the culture change and morale, if any, will be. I stated any coach should be able to sleepwalk with this team in 2017 and win ten games. It's going to take great scheming and game planning to run the table or be close; remember all conference away games are hard.

I'm elated we ended the year the way we did; not laying down even though winning the division always seemed just out of our grasp after the Temple loss. The team played loose on offense until the second half. There was almost a perfect example of the strengths and weaknesses of our team in he bowl game that will be on film for the new staff.

Hoping Gilbert listens to the seniors and doesn't overhaul the entire offense; or if he does it's something they can still run Uber successfully. Hoping CCS can turn the defense into a solid unit with scheme changes and that him and his staff coach like they have something to prove.

Go Bulls!

Given our 99% chance of going undefeated in our weak OOC schedule, pretty sure 2 conference losses will not win us the conference.

I think you can have an even balance, I hoped beyond hopes we could win out this year but I also tempered my expectations for both FSU and Temple (Navy also but we won that one..). Next year I would say 14-0 is realistic with our schedule, however we could very well drop a game here or there. Depend on who that loss may be to would determine if I was upset or not (if lose to San Jose or Stoney Brook I'll few out,  Houston or Tulsa not so much).

The hightened expectations are warranted but I agree that if we drop a game or two it's not the end of the world.

Huh?

A single conference loss kept us out of the CCG this year (arguably, we got a better bowl than the champ got, though, so there's that)

A single OOC loss kills us in the rankings due to the weakass schedule, but a single conference loss most likely keeps us out of the CCG again.

Its nothing with the fact that they would be conference losses and everything to do with the quality of the opponent. Honestly I'll be pissed if we lose any out of conference games next year. Also both Houston and Tulsa are AAC West teams. If we beat Temple and lose to Navy we play in the conference championship. If we were to lose to either we still control our destiny; something untrue this year as we lost to an AAC East team.

12 wins and 2 losses = 14 games.

12 game regular season, CCG, and a bowl game. Which two do we lose?

1 conference game and MAYBE we play in the CCG, or not, but we have to to get 14 games. So we either lose the CCG or the bowl game. OR we go 12-0 in conference and lose CCG and bowl game.
