Probably, yea.  That's pretty much how life works for most people, right?  Work hard, be successful, earn a higher salary, usually from a different company trying to lure you away.  Why do we expect coaches to be different?

The fact is, if we are playing the way that we desire, having 10+ win seasons and winning championships, then people are going to be coming after our coaches. Period. Whether it's an established name or an up and comer.  That's a reality that you are hopefully just going to have to get used to.  Do we want to find that world-class coach who has the desire to coach at nowhere except the University of South Florida?  Of course.  Who doesn't want to win the lottery?

I think your wrong as Houston had an opportunity albeit a rare one. THe margin of error for a G-5 team is zero but it is still possible. Had Houston went undefeated they would have been in the playoff.

Maybe I was being a little reactionary. Undefeated there was probably a chance with their schedule, but it all hinges on that - the schedule. The more P5 teams take notice of that also, they'll schedule less and less games against G5 as to avoid diminishing their chance at the playoffs.

Nope, there are older coaches with proven records that would be less attractive to the power 5 schools.

We need to stop hiring young coaches that are focused on money and big name programs.

Examples?  And if these are so-called proven coaches, yet nobody in the P5 seems to want them, do you think that perhaps there is a reason why?  I mean, why poach away Taggart who has an overall losing record at two schools in baby conferences when there are perfectly good proven coaches available?  And if we do catch one of these unicorns that we don't have to worry about jumping to another school in five years, we just have to worry about them retiring in five years.

Take the buyouts. Don't care if they jump ship for doing well, it means we had good football and we get paid.

And here's why:

IF we can hire Charlie Strong:

1. Our defense next year instantly is top 25. And if thats the case we all know were going undefeated with flowers and company still in the game.

If we go undefeated next year putting up 45+ points every game BUT holding opponents to under 20. We WILL be in the CFP, no doubt about it. (given we will be ranked in the 20s high teens beggining of year if we win)

2. GUESS WHAT?? If we make the CFP next year and EVEN if Charlie Strong leaves, WE WILL be seen as the hot "Houston" team and we will get the best up and coming coach, which would continue to propel our success forward ala WKU.

3. In the realignment conversation we will all of a sudden be the hot commodity, which could increase our chances dramatically.

If we get Charlie Strong, and he keeps the same offense, I say watch out. Were going to the CFP, almost no doubt about it.

He had Texas recruits and never had a good defense there. Jury still out on Charlie.

Believe it or not.....

The whole thing USF has going for it is that mentality to stick it to the man (P5 and status quo) and forge its own destiny in every way possible.

What that means is:

Taking Dual threat QBs other programs say arent prototypical and believing in them(ala Flowers)

Hiring black coaches (still not entirely prevalent in CFB)

THE TRUTH IS:

Some of these kids, often times great ones, like Flowers, have had very hard upbringings and situations, and the most attractive thing to them isnt to sell them on this little good ole boys, white man's dream of college football, at the tennessee's, alabamas, of the world.

SOMETIMES the reality to say F that, Im going to the school that is breaking away and daring to not paint this fantasy world but the coaches/staff/players come from where I have come from....means WAY MORE.

USF needs to do whatever it can to remain in that niche, because there we have a shot to be special.

I'm with you, but "these" kids want a chance to better their life and their families lives by playing at the next level some day.  If an Alabama or Tennessee comes calling, they are going to answer.  USF isn't cranking out the yearly NFL talent like the good ole boys are. We will still get the diamonds in the rough that the big boys don't want to take a chance on.

USF will finish with a slightly better SOS than what West Michigan had this year and they were as close to making the playoffs as UCONN.

I agree that this was the best time for CWT to bolt. However the glass ceiling on the program next year is access bowl.

Any discussion of being included in a 4 team playoff is pot talk. This isn't the Big East where USF had a seat at the table if it performed.

Disagree, glass ceiling on the program moving forward is conference title.

Im not sure this phrase means what you think it means.

There is nothing physically stopping USF from winning the conference. Simply win more conference games than the rest of the division, win the CC game, and you win. An access bowl would also be a lock if USF, or any American team, went 12-0.

There is a PLETHORA of factors and biases keeping USF from the CFP. The first and foremost is having been relegated to a second tier conference.

I agree with your intent. The next step is a conference title. But the only thing stopping USF from that has been USF.
