You wouldn't have to worry like a little puss if you had two of them.  Get with the program.

Plummeting STUDENT attendance. Isn't this the same generation that would rather play with a phone and text all day than go outside and play when they were kids? Not surprised.

Not just the kids that would rather stay home. Same thing is happening in every sport, every demographic.  When every game is on your high def TV, it's a whole lot easier (and cheaper) to stay home and not miss anything.

What do you all think is the end game here? Pay Per View only games at boxing match prices? You know the greed of the lucrative TV contracts will keep games on tv. Do teams simply keep going until the stadiums are cleared out but every one is home watching on tv? Do they keep trying in stadium gimmicks that ultimately fail? Significantly lower ticket and concessions prices until the fans come back? Where do you all think that this goes?

Yes the title is deceptive, bu-u-u-u-u-u-t falls in line with slick's desire to see the sport shut down.

Oh please. Sharpen your comprehension skills. I've never said I wanted the demise of CF. And while this article does say much about STUDENT attendance, it also includes statements such as "Schools must cater to both 18-year-old undergraduates and 81-year-old donors" and "One of the shocking things that schools have learned is that football fans, including students, currently care more about clean restrooms than fast Internet.". Its hardly just a student issue as evidenced by many articles such as this one, http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jon-solomon/24891415/college-football-attendance-home-crowds-drop-to-lowest-in-14-years. Or this one http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/01/college_football_2013-14_bowl.html

Let's be real, the TV money in the case of the high dollar sports far exceeds stadium money.  But TV needs fans in the seats to generate excitement.

What we are already seeing is stadiums getting smaller.  Jacksonville closed off sections and turned other sections into a pool.  Florida has a hard time filling the stadium when they aren't winning a national championship.  We'll see the same thing at Michigan and Nebraska, etc, if we haven't already.

Gimmicks aren't needs as much as little things like a more comfortable seat, and being able to get into and out of the stadium easily.  The situation will get worse as we get more and more video feeds and the new super high def TVs.

The good news is that you no longer need a huge on campus stadium.  Bad news is that stadium better not be a tin can, where you sit on 100 degree aluminum bleachers waiting for a September game to start.

I think what Jacksonville discussed doing was ingenious. I'm not sure if they implemented it. They have a massive video board and for half of it they were going to play NFL Red Zone. ESPN has the same type channel called Goal Line. Playing that in college stadiums might bring in fans. If the game sucks you can watch other games from your seat.

Plummeting STUDENT attendance

This is killing Duckhead's plea to build an ocs for the students ...

The article spends to entire first half talking about how all the new studies show nobody cares about wifi and the entire 2nd half detailing all the wifi costs and spending... Yawn.

Tap dance all you want but the only new data on plummeting attendance in the article pertained strictly to students ... the thread title is misleading.

Because while it isn't a big issue to fans now, they are planning ahead to what they think will become an issue in the future.
