South Florida has landed a commitment from Andres Feliz, one of the stars of the recent U19 World Championships. He will enroll at the university for the 2016-17 season. "I have decided to commit to coach Orlando Antigua and the University of South Florida. Go bulls!!!" Feliz tweeted.

Feliz was the leading scorer in the U19 tournament, averaging 18.9 points and 3.7 assists in seven games. The Dominican Republic team he played for finished 3-4 in those seven games, and Feliz was coached on that team by Oliver Antigua, an assistant coach for South Florida and the younger brother of USF head coach Orlando Antigua. Feliz goes to high school at West Oaks Academy and plays his AAU ball for Team Breakdown of the Under Armor Association.

Even better if he makes it in 2016.  Less time to go somewhere else.  Him and Baxter look pretty good for that class.  Feeling like Coach O may get this thing turned around.

Nice to see the connection to the FIBA Dominican teams paying dividends on the recruiting trail. Hopefully, more such players will see USF as a viable basketball destination.

Feliz commits to USF

South Florida picks up a 2016 basketball commit from point guard Andres Feliz. Feliz is reclassifying from a 2017 target to a 2016.

Fresh off a standout performance for the Dominican Republic at the FIBA under-19 World Championships in Greece, Orlando West Oaks Academy PG Andres Feliz announced via Twitter Monday he has orally committed to USF.

 

...Feliz, who also has drawn interest from Louisville and Miami among others, plans to reclassify from the 2017 class and graduate next year. If he does, he will join three-star forward Troy Baxter of The Rock School in Tallahassee in USF's current recruiting class.
