  1. That is about as good as I would have put it. Obviously we all hope that Taggart stays for one more year to capitalize on the talent that returns but if he doesn't, I would take Kiffin for at least a year. We all know USF would not be Kiffin's end goal but if we can benefit by having someone with a good offensive mind to take advantage of the best USF offense in history, then I will put aside my feelings for him. If you look at what Kiffin has done with the Bama QB's since his arrival, it is pretty remarkable. Blake Sims was a RB converted into a QB and he has one of the best years for a Bama QB. Then Coker started the year rough and was solid through the end and the playoffs to lead them to a NC. He has also taken a true FR QB this year and made him look pretty good. I know Bama has elite talent all around the field but they also play significantly better defenses week in and week out than USF plays. Some may think the SEC is overrated but I think their defenses are solid (LSU, Florida, Auburn, etc.). Some Bama fans hate how Lane is too "cute" with his playcalls, with jet sweeps and tosses, rather than running it down people's throats as in the old traditional Bama days. I think his style would fit USF's current roster and skill set and I think he can make QF as efficient or more so next year. All in all he has taken 3 first year QBs and made them look like anything but a first year starter. Again they have elite talent all over the field but the same can be said for LSU (look at their RBs and WRs in the NFL - Beckham, Landry, Hill, soon to be Fournette) and their QBs have been awful - which leads me to coaching. I also think Lane would be more interested in the USF job than Houston because of the talent we are returning. He wants to be a HC at the P5 level and coming to USF with a ton of talent returning puts him in a better spot to win big and possibly land that big job the following year. I am not sure who else I would like USF to go after if CWT leaves but I think we can definitely do worse than Lane Kiffin.
  2. Back when he was committed to USF a friend of mine was on the coaching staff of a local high school. He would go to all the local camps and he ran into him a lot. Knowing I was a USF fan he would always tell me that this kid was a jerk and a hot head and said that he had talent but in his opinion he wasn't talented enough to deal with his ego. Once that decommit happened he told me it was the best thing to happen for us cause he would be a cancer. Even though he's playing for Marshall he hasn't been putting up Rakeem Cato like numbers so let's not overreact and say we are missing out on much. Personally after the accounts I heard of his attitude I would not have wanted him either, especially at a position like QB where leadership is a big part.
  3. Joey Knight just tweeted out another article about Joe Kinnan, Manatee's former head coach, and this time it talks about his offensive philosophy. Apparently Malzahn mirrored his offense around Kinnan's and made some tweaks. So IF Kinnan were to come to USF it might not be completely out of the question that we see an offense run similarly to what Auburn is currently running. In which case as mentioned before, Swanson would still be utilized quite a bit. Http://www.bradenton.com/2014/12/09/5523041_commentary-expect-joe-kinnan-to.html?sp=/99/100/&rh=1
  4. If we can manage close games against Memphis and UCF, I would say definitely. If we get into a situation where we abandon the run and have to play catch-up then it might be hard. Either way I am encouraged by this kid's vision and running ability. Best cut-back ability I have seen at USF since Andre Hall.
  5. I am not sure where the weak arm strength comments are coming from either. There has hardly been much to go from watching him this year and judging by the video highlights I have watched, his arm strength appears pretty strong. It looked like his OL let guys run unblocked many times making him have to throw on the run a lot and not from a clean pocket. The way our OL has been at times this year, his mobility could be a plus in extending plays and potentially finding more completions. I, like many others, am a little nervous that he will be starting because it is an unknown. At this point I think I would rather go with the unknown in Flowers then go with the known in Bench and White which haven't performed all too well. Some people think that putting White or Bench in would be a given win against SMU but let's not forget that Bench's start against Houston yielded 3 points and 222 total yards and against Cincy we had 176 total yards and 3 points when you take out to the two big TD pass plays, one of which was a complete coverage bust. We are worried that Flowers will turn the ball over because he is inexperienced but Bench and White haven't taken care of the ball either. I don't think this changes our chances against SMU that much because our offense has pretty much been non-existent with whoever at QB so I will stay cautiously excited to see what Flowers can provide in extended playing time.
  6. Those are all good points but I guess I was asking more as a hypothetical of USF and geographical area and players that are available versus the current players on the roster. There are a lot of reasons that the offense isn't clicking right now there isn't anything we can do about it with the current players. I guess what I mean is with the players in the state of Florida and the styles that most high schools run, do you think it would have been best for USF to continue to try and run the spread (although Skip's Holtz's offenses didn't have much of an identity) and recruit for that versus bringing in the pro-style mentality and recruiting for that? USF has to rely on Florida for the majority of their recruiting and Florida high school football is built on speed so there aren't as many players around that fit the scheme. Not to mention when they are, we don't exactly have our pick at them. Do you think recruiting to the spread style is more beneficial for the program of USF as a whole because it is more readily available in the area?
  7. I know people have talked about it in the past but I wanted to get opinions on this topic. Clearly USF's offense has struggled the past 2 years under the "pro-style" offense and that could be attributed to lack of talent, wrong type of players for the system, learning curve, execution, QB ability, or all of the above. Florida has tried to do the same under Muschamp for even longer now and has not been able to gain any consistency. With the types of recruits that the state of Florida churns out each year mixed with most high schools now running spread systems, can USF run a successful "pro-style" offense or are they better fit to run the spread? Do you think if Flowers gets more playing time that Taggart will adjust the offense to cater to his skills and be more of a spread style? Personally I go back and forth on the topic because USF has more access to players that fit the spread but I think a lot of the fan base is probably now jaded towards the pro-style because we have been so inefficient at it. I know it hasn't been a full two years yet under the system and most of the guys we have are still new to it but it makes you wonder if we would have more success right now if we had recruited and implemented a spread offense during that time. What is everyone's thought on this?
