  1. Doing well. Miss you guys. I'd written the Landi note, so always like clearing things up ... hope you all are doing well.
  2. Landi was at NFL Super Regional combine in Detroit this weekend. Could get signed from there, but it's not a Bucs event ...
  3. They had lost a fair amount before I left. Not saying it's not my fault, just not my fault alone ...
  4. Still keeping tabs on USF and you guys. Be nice to the reporters ...
  5. He's barely played football in two years. I'd be surprised if he's willing to sit out another year to play two years at a I-A program. More likely to go I-AA, where he can play immediately and have three years there.
  6. This is a good discussion. Taggart made it clear in August he brings in recruits to take people's jobs, so this is in line with that mentality and in selling that plan to recruits. He's still evaluating his roster, and as long as White gets a long look rest of the way, it's good for his understanding of what he has (and needs) at quarterback. In playing White, he's also sending a message that evaluating him is more important than developing a returning QB like Floyd or Bench, who are reasonable healthy and now just a year ahead of him. It will be interesting to see how that's received. Tipp mentioned 2004, and that was my first year on the beat -- notable in my memory not for playing a ton of true freshmen, but playing a ton of redshirt freshmen in key roles -- you had Ben Moffitt, Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams and Danny Verpaele all in there on a defense that didn't play well but gained crucial experience. The kids from Miami Edison played as true freshmen in 2004, Johnny Peyton jumped in too, but If anything, Leavitt was impressive in how he didn't burn redshirts on some key players in 2004 -- multi-year starters down the road in guys like Jake Griffin, Matt Huners, Marcus Edwards, Woody George. Again, Leavitt had a much different job security than Taggart does -- Leavitt could make a decision for what's best for the team in four years, while Taggart needs to think more immediately, for his own future and to keep the fans around.
  7. Here's his obituary listing. Nice to see the family has suggested, in lieu of flowers, for memorial donations to USF athletics. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sptimes/obituary.aspx?n=steven-michael-oneal-steve&pid=167145139&fhid=5953#sthash.l6v0HjeK.dpbs
  8. For what it's worth, any time you read a Times story (or blog post) on a link from Facebook or Twitter, it won't count toward your 15 free views. So there's that.
  9. So sad to hear this today. Steve was, as you know, a regular on our USF blog -- always a passionate Bulls fan, and one you'd see at so many USF events. I was at Taggart's radio show a few weeks back when Steve gave him the shirt he'd gotten for him, write down to the "Willie" nameplate. Proud, proud fan -- it's really a great thing to get to meet you guys in person at these events. He'll be missed.
  10. Readership certainly hasn't decreased dramatically. I understand you guys are used to getting the Times for free, so there's a decision to be made. I'm very careful with how I spend my money as well. I think you'll find -- whether by reading it or looking elsewhere -- that the Times has the best USF coverage you'll find anywhere on any site. There's a commitment in terms of the volume of coverage, the consistent travel, the depth of reporting. I think Joey's hit the ground running and will do a great job. You guys can reach me at auman@tampabay.com if you have any questions.
  11. Taggart says it'll be Durden on punts Saturday. Lots of discussions on smart decisions on punts inside 10 ...
  12. Davis and Dunkley were returning punts yesterday ..
  13. I don't know that I was very active on this board my first year or two on the beat -- I think my first username here was something anonymous like "usf2004." This board has been of great value to me -- first and foremost as a great way to interact with fans and readers, to get an awareness for how at least a cross-section of fans react to events as they happen. You guys find news on your own -- an army of eyes and ears that care about everything USF, so it's very hard for something relevant to exist about the Bulls without it registering here. I think I felt pretty early on that it was only fair, if I used this board as a resource, to return the favor and try to answer questions and engage with you guys. I don't get into the details of where we get traffic referred from, but this has to be a great source of traffic when you guys are nice enough to post stories with links back to my site or the Trib's or anyone else that writes about USF. So please know that I very much appreciate the help you guys have been to me on many different levels. It probably isn't fair to expect Joey to do the same, especially immediately -- like any community, you have to get settled yourself, get a feel for the personalities, get used to your surroundings. I think you'll find Joey to be a hard worker, a smart writer with a good eye for detail and a great sense of humor. I know I'm excited about reading his coverage and I hope you guys can be as warm and embracing with him as you -- well, most all of you -- have been with me over the years. And please keep in touch -- my e-mail is the same at auman@tampabay.com, and I imagine I'll tweet a fair amount of links to our USF stories at @gregauman for a while, too ...
  14. Stephen Holder left the Times last month and is now the lead Colts writer for the Indianapolis Star.
  15. "Help" had nothing to do with job change. I've had a correspondent every year I've been on the beat.
